The Administrative Support Assistant is established to support the work of Human Resources SBU and Network front desk operations by performing a variety of administrative and technical duties in support of the SBU and Network Office.
Duties
Major duties include but arent limited to:
Receives and screens applicants and employees' telephone calls and answers inquiries concerning the employing organization's structure and functions or general questions concerning HR office procedures.
Answers inquiries regarding types of vacancies and vacancy announcements, procedures for filing applications, receipt and disposition of applications, and general questions concerning Federal Employment.
Performs work in support of labor and employee relations functions and regularly attends meetings which involve labor relation discussions..
Manages the reception area to include screening telephone calls, routing calls and receiving clients and visitors.
Maintains the information necessary to support the Resources Management Committee - this includes researching staffing data, vacancy data, contacting supervisors in order to obtain necessary supporting documents and maintaining the strength report.
Manages the SharePoint site for the Human Resources Department. Uses MS Office software such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook to produce a variety of documents.
Maintains method of advertisement for vacancy announcements with the employing organization
Serves as a confidential employee, working closely with Employee and Labor Relations Specialists and Human Resources Officer in the preparation and distribution of correspondence such as suspensions, removals, reprimands, admonishments, etc.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/15/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
GS-05 Specialized Experience: You must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 Level in the normal line of progression for the occupation. Specialized experience includes: Use a personal computer, terminal, and office software programs to enter data, complete and correct forms. Provide routine information and accomplish routine support tasks within an office setting to ensure customer satisfaction. Performing a full range of standard and non-standard clerical assignments and resolving a variety of non- recurring problems. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR,
Combination of Specialized Experience and Education: You may have a combination of education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate education and specialized experience directly related to the work of the position, may be substituted to meet the experience requirements of the position (Transcripts Required).
GS-06 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Use a personal computer, terminal, and office software programs to enter data, complete and correct forms. Provide routine information and accomplish routine support tasks within an office setting to ensure customer satisfaction. Maintain files and reviews and processes incoming and outgoing materials such as mail, correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication. Prepares all outgoing correspondence in the appropriate format. Uses MS Office software such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook to produce a variety of documents. Organizes and maintains files and records, manuals, handbooks, and other materials related to the missions of the Service. Maintain personnel listings and organizational charts.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. The employee sits comfortably to do the work assignments. At times there may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items, e.g., papers, books, files, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
