About the Position: Serves as a Department of the Army Police Officer with the Directorate of Emergency Services, performing law enforcement duties at the Army's premier initial entry level training installation, Fort Jackson, SC. Fort Jackson is located near Columbia, SC- an easy drive away from both the mountains and the beaches.

Duties

As a member of a tactical team, establishes an incident perimeter, contains terrorist activity, and executes a course of action to defeat attackers. Performs access control duties by applying local instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Pre-Planned Responses (PPR), Random Anti-terrorism Measure (RAM), and Force Protection (FP) Conditions to control vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Decides what actions to take and the applicable methodology based on assessment of facts obtained from other officers, witnesses, and personal observations and interviews. Conducts traffic LE patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer. Operates the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with federal and state laws to transcribe data. Provides sworn testimony based on the investigative process, evidence gathered, witness? statements in criminal and traffic courts.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position.
  • Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
  • Successfully graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, within 1 year unless incumbent has a current approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement. These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Meet the requirements of AR 190-56: pass a pre-employment and recurring medical / psychiatric evaluation; Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire and annually; maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation.
  • Subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
