About the Position: This is a PERMANENT position as a Supervisory Police Officer with the Directorate of Emergency Services at Fort Jackson, SC.

Duties

The incumbent serves as a Shift Supervisor for the Law Enforcement force assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander at IMCOM supported installations. Exercises search and apprehension authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects, interviews witnesses and other persons involved, and determines whether facts warrant apprehension or lesser action. Performs protection duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access at fixed installation, internal compound, and incident perimeter posts. Operates the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with federal and state laws to transcribe data. Conducts traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer. Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • The incumbent must successfully graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy within 1 year, unless he/she has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Incumbent must be able to pass training and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, such as weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System training requirements.
  • Incumbent must successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation.
  • Incumbent must pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • Incumbent must comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • This is a Drug Testing Designated position.
  • This position is covered under the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • This is a Mission Essential position.
  • Incumbent is required to work overtime and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • This position is covered under the Omnibus Federal Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2001 which requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
