About the Position: This is a PERMANENT GS-09 position as a Supervisory Police Officer with the Directorate of Emergency Services at Fort Jackson, SC. Moving expenses and/or recruitment/relocation incentives MAY be authorized for this position.

Duties

Perform supervisory and administrative duties relating to the police force. Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust priorities and prepares schedules. Assign work to subordinates and give advice or instructions to the employees. Set employee standards for performance and prepare performance evaluations. Conduct job interviews and make recommendations for promotions, reassignments and new hires. Respond to and investigate emergency calls and complaints. Exercise search and apprehension authority, interview witnesses, collect and preserve evidence and conduct investigations on criminal cases. Conduct traffic law enforcement patrols and issue citations

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Medical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • Must attend the United States Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy and successfully graduate within 12 months of hire date unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exception.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56 to include the requirement to wear a uniform and/or maintain a high state of uniform appearance and personal hygiene
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • Incumbent must pass, within 90 days of being hired and annually thereafter, a physical agility test.
  • This position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) and has been designated by the Department of Army as critical to the national or internal security.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related Law Enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • Position is subject to the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
