About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the National Ground Intelligence Center, Science and Technology Directorate, Advanced Conventional Weapons Division, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
Duties
All-source guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) engineer responsible for evaluating and assessing component and integrated capabilities and performance. Provides current and forecasted GNC advancements to indirect-fire systems and munitions.
Utilizes engineering principles and all-source analysis to identify or estimate the characteristics and performance of foreign indirect-fire systems/munitions as well as evaluate their strengths and weaknesses.
Provides analysis and contributions to analytical products and materiel exploitation related to GNC component identification, integration requirements, performance, and resultant impact on capabilities of complete munition.
Provides analysis of GNC component limitations and vulnerabilities, to include potential for jamming or other electromagnetic interference, weather and environmental conditions, and sensitivities to launch environment.
Analyzes technology trends related to GNC components and subsystems that meet size, cost, reliability, and mission requirements for indirect fire systems in the future and assesses munition performance improvements.
Reviews, exploits, analyzes, and makes engineering judgments based on collected intelligence data in order to develop models and simulations using computer aided design and engineering software.
Works with munition analysts and modeling engineers to develop threat representative trajectory models that accurately model GNC system behavior for customers requiring high fidelity models.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
- In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- Must be willing to undergo and successfully complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination with No Deception Indicated (NDI) on a pre-appointment and periodic basis.

One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GG/GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience in applying knowledge of the principles, concepts, and techniques to conduct complex Science and Technical Intelligence (S&TI) research and analysis to produce targeted S&TI intelligence projects in the field of artillery weapons systems and associated technologies.
