The primary purpose of this position is to provide Electronics Equipment Specialist expertise and technical assistance for assigned electronic equipment and to serve as the technical expert to Air Force organizations in terms of electronic equipment integration and technical data.
Duty Title: Electronics Equipment Specialist Trainee
Duties
Collects, analyzes, interprets, and/or develops specialized information electronic systems and components
Provides assistance and/or advisory services to those who design, test, produce, procure, supply, operate, repair, and/or dispose of electronic systems and components.
Manages, advises, assists, and/or coordinates electronic systems, components, and equipment maintenance/repair programs, strategies, and/or operations in accordance with regulatory policy, processes, and guidance.
Manages, advises, and/or assists in the planning, scheduling, execution, control, and/or resourcing of the production process in maintenance activities.
Manages, advises, and/or assists the disposal of unusable, excess, and/or obsolete electronic systems and components.
This position is a developmental (GS-09 Target GS-11) position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the GS-09. Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. This position may be subject to a formalized training program and pay retention of 150% of the maximum rate of the basic pay is authorized for candidates requesting a Voluntary Change to lower Grade. Military Spouse candidates exercising their preference will be placed at the full performance level, if considered to be best qualified and selected.

- Physical Demands: Work is sedentary and requires no special physical abilities. It may involve some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items.
- Work Environment: Work involves everyday risks/discomforts typically associated with office or similar settings. Work areas are adequately heated/lighted/ventilated. Visits to production areas are infrequent and relatively free of hazards.
Qualifications
Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below for the GS-1670, Equipment Services series.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-09: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Principles, concepts, and theories of Equipment Specialist (Electronics), and the standard practices, methods, and techniques of the occupation sufficient to perform difficult, but well-precedented assignments. Working as a skilled mechanic or maintenance worker, sales or service engineer, or planner or estimator in a technical group dealing with manufacture, utilization, repair, or operation of equipment. Reviewing and applying technical specifications and requirements. Analyzing equipment and forecasting spare parts requirements. Reading and interpreting engineering change orders, equipment requisitions, shop orders, and workorders. Analyzing contract specifications and examining pertinent equipment to determine if specifications are met. Analyzing or supervising maintenance, repair, or production operations to determine methods of improvement.

EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Have a masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.B. or J.D., if related. NOTE: You must submit copies of your unofficial transcripts with your application if using education as a substitution of experience.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: An equivalent combination of successfully completed, qualifying education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Working as a skilled mechanic or maintenance worker, sales or service engineer, or planner or estimator in a technical group dealing with manufacture, utilization, repair, or operation of equipment. Reviewing and applying technical specifications and requirements. Analyzing equipment and forecasting spare parts requirements. Reading and interpreting engineering change orders, equipment requisitions, shop orders, and workorders. Analyzing contract specifications and examining pertinent equipment to determine if specifications are met. Analyzing or supervising maintenance, repair, or production operations to determine methods of improvement.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-?grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of design and manufacturing of a family electronic equipment, parts, assemblies, components and subsystems and composite weapon systems to includes knowledge of their characteristics, properties and uses.
Knowledge of policies and procedures for maintaining equipment, ability to review, analyze, and evaluate equipment specialist programs and knowledge of applicable customer service standards.
Skill to enhance maintenance effectiveness and efficiency to ensure that modification or new equipment will satisfactorily interface with existing equipment and skill in using information systems and software for research to review, interpret, analyze, evaluate, and write technical data.
Knowledge of structure, content, codes, internal and external interfaces, update procedures and uses of automated supply systems and databases and automated databases for equipment specialist determination.
Knowledge of sources, responsibilities, and means to provide timely assistance and economical solutions for technical problems.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
