Duties

You will determine the eligibility of persons to occupy a National Security sensitive position, based on current security concerns related to suitability for employment. You will ensure that required security clearance determinations are met for employees by verifying background investigations and final adjudications. You will review requests for security clearances, evaluating the sensitivity classification of the position by applying need-to-know principles and pertinent security guidelines. You will organize, effectively communicate, and coordinate changes in the Personnel Security Program (PSP), as related to work requirements within personnel security and the impact of those changes on administrative functions within the Agency. You will assist with drafting new policy, standard operating procedures (SOP), or procedural instructions to provide guidance to SSP field activity security specialists and SSP personnel. You will provide advice and counselor instruction on administrative and work matters, ensure PII documentation is protected, and ensure records no longer needed are appropriately destroyed based on Department of Navy records management requirements.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band (NH-02) or grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying personnel security policy/procedural guidance to determine the eligibility of individuals.
