About the Position: The primary purpose of this position is to perform tracking of electronic medical referral consultations that requires core competency knowledge of medical referral processing and use of the Composite Health Care System software; managing the medical specialty consultations/referrals process IAW the Managed Care Support Contract (MCSC); providing surveillance of the electronic consultation process as defined by the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).
Duties
Manages and accounts for electronically transmitted medical consultations by retrieving and processing electronically transferred patient consultation from the Composite Health Care System (CHCS).
Retrieves, processes and expedites electronic and/or printed consultations and results as appropriate from within all aspects of the medical group environment.
Manages the in-processing status of specialty consultations by data entry, identifying, monitoring, tracking, and reporting status of pending medical results or evaluations with specialty providers.
Manages completeness of electronic consultations.
Maintains accountability of all consults while being authorized and appointed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes performing clerical duties and functions associated with the treatment of patients such as: performs tracking of the medical specialty consultations/referrals process for clientele; previews medical consultations for completeness of administrative data elements; manages consultations and accounts for required medical results (feedback) to the ordering health care provider; perform data retrieval for monthly reports by the supervisor for information and to be used for education and training for the clinical staff; provide feedback on the effectiveness of the electronic consultation process to responsible supervisor as defined by the MTF.

Education: Successfully completed four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
