About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), Information Technology Laboratory.

Duties

Serves as the secretary for the Director of the a Laboratory located within ERDC. Incumbent functions as personal assistant and exercises independent judgment in dealing with all management levels within the Laboratory, ERDC and external organizations. Serves in a liaison capacity between the director and personnel who report to the executive office, and provides relevant background material and information on action items to the director. Utilize the Corps of Engineer Financial Management System (CEFMS) to prepare travel orders and vouchers. Prepare correspondence, reports, spread sheets, briefing and presentations utilizing various computer software.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires a qualified typist.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last two years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DK-03 (GS-7). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementComputer SkillsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Technology ApplicationWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-7). All qualification requirements, including time after competitive appointment, must be met by the closing date of this announcement. This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DK-04 (equivalent to GS-8/10). In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, an employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above in order to be selected for promotion. All applicants currently employed under a Laboratory Demonstration Project must include their most recent performance appraisal score as part of their electronic resume.
