About the Position: Serves as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist for U.S. Army TMDE Activity (USATA)supported calibration programs and facilities. Emphasis is placed on basic hazard areas such as explosive, electrical and electronic, mechanical, personnel, software, radiological, and equipment handling hazards.
Duties
Conduct safety inspections and surveys; modification, adaptation, and extension of safety guides, criteria, and standards; accident investigations and prevention; safety promotion and training; and monitoring of occupational health program.
Review and analyze plans and specifications for new construction and facility alteration or expansion for compliance with safety codes, criteria, standards, and principles.
Coordinate with specialist in industrial hygiene, engineering, and fire protection to control or eliminate hazards.
Conduct studies of safety problems to identify, correct and minimize undesirable operational conditions and hazards, develop remedial safety measures, identify trends and problem areas, plan and implement an accident prevention and control program.
Use analysis techniques and research hazardous operations and materials to determine the safest method to use new technologies and techniques.
Provide technical advice and assistance to key management officials.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% or more.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Specialized Experience
Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level which includes: providing staff advice and technical assistance for safety program requiring the development and application of safety devices, methods, techniques and safety standards; evaluating and coordinating system safety concepts with test and measurement.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
