You will serve as a dual hat PROTOCOL SPECIALIST for Joint Force Command Norfolk as well as in the OFFICE OF THE COMMANDER of COM SECOND FLEET.

Duties

You will serve as an executive escort to the Commander, Vice Commander, and Deputy Commander as required for official events. You will provide technical and administrative supervision to the staff regarding protocol matters. You will brief and escort drivers, culinary specialist and staff members on official duties and military courtesies. You will as provide background information on visiting U.S. Foreign dignitaries. You will determine individual group requirements, establish guest lists, select menus, issue invitations, assign seating based on protocol and briefs attending Flag/COS on ceremonial courtesies, gift exchanges, receiving line, and flag displays. You will advise and coordinate requests for use of Official Representation Funds (ORF) and NATO Hospitality and Representation Funds (NHRF) to ensure funds are expended on appropriate level of Distinguished Visitors. You will draft, review, revise, and implement administrative instructions, policy guidance/procedures as appropriate to protocol functions.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience working with an in-depth knowledge of the protocol function and the ability to independently organize and follow through on the myriad of procedures and details required to successfully coordinate high-level protocol support for distinguished visitors. Experience de-conflicting and tracking a heavy schedule of visitors, updating and integrating all changes, modifying schedules and briefing Command of senior leadership accordingly.
