This position is located in the Veteran's Health Administration, Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6) in a VA Healthcare System located in Salem, Virginia and is organizationally aligned within the Chaplain Service. The incumbent serves as a service and program level Program Support Assistant under the administrative supervision of the Chief of Chaplain Service.
Duties
The Program Support Assistant (OA) incumbent works with personal initiative and expertise in keeping with the VA Core Values (ICARE) to provide administrative and technical support to the Service, to address or forward service level issues as appropriate, and to provide data and information for analyses and reports for presentation, provide administrative, clerical, and office automation support for the Chaplain Service.
Major duties include but are not limited to:
1. Providing administrative support with data collection, analysis of trends, and implementation of best practices and support training operations.
2. Collecting, compiling, researching and/or tracking of data and statistical information; preparing complex data/reports.
3. Collecting data and tracks performance measures for areas participating in performance improvement activities related to the Service's and programs' quality improvement processes.
4. Preparing a wide variety of recurring and some nonrecurring correspondence, reports, and other documents and reviews and finalizes correspondence or documents prepared by others in handwritten or electronic drafts.
5. Composing routine nontechnical correspondence, such as instructions on office procedures, requests for information, and letters of acknowledgment or notification.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/28/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing administrative support; collecting, compiling and tracking data and information; processing documents and reports; establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records; performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics; answering telephones, referring visitors, and providing information.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is basically sedentary, but a great deal of walking to all parts of the Medical Center is required since the incumbent will be working with a variety of clinical and administrative services.
