Duties
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) serves as a national catalyst for the organization and distribution of biological, hydrological, geological, and geographical information and addresses the specific needs of the Department of the Interior and its land and resource managers. The USGS is the Nation's largest water, earth, biological science and civilian mapping agency, working in cooperation with more than 2,000 organizations across the country with numerous international communities to provide reliable, impartial, scientific information to resource managers, planners, and other customers and partners.
Qualifications
For GS-07:
Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-07 level:
Possess one year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Examples of GS-5 level work include: analyzing problems to identify significant factors, gathering pertinent data, and recognizing solutions regarding programs and functions; planning and organizing work; and communicating effectively orally and in writing.
**OR applicants may substitute successful completion of one full year of graduate level education which provided the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of a Management Analyst.

For GS-09:
Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-9 level: One year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal service. Examples of GS-7 level work include assisting in: 1) Research and investigations of new and improved business and management practices; 2) development of management and program evaluation plans, procedures, and methodology; 3) management surveys to determine compliance with regulations, procedures, sound management practices and effective utilization of staff. This level of work typically involved following established methods and procedures or detailed instructions; using some judgment in applying analytical techniques; solving minor problems and making routine decisions.
**OR applicants may substitute successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B or J.D if related). (36 semester hours, 54 quarter hours, or the equivalent).
