About the Position: The incumbent performs the full range of receptionist, recordkeeping and miscellaneous clerical duties within the ambulatory setting. Enters, manipulates and/or retrieves information and data from automated systems.

Duties
Maintains and monitors patient appointment schedules for the clinic/practice.
Coordinates and/or schedules patient appointments with other clinics or specialties.
Completes request forms, manually or automated, for individual patient orders, blood work and other requests.
Enters, manipulates and/or retrieves information and data from automated systems.
Receives patients and visitors as the initial point of contact, in person or telephonically.
Maintains all patients' records, both electronic and paper, according to regulation ensuring each entry contains proper patient and health care provider identification.
Responsible for the clerical duties inherent to the in processing (reception), care and out processing (transition) of outpatients, families/ caregivers and guests.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a Tier 1 security investigation.
- A qualified typist is required.
- This position requires an influenza vaccination.
- All employees assigned to a Medical Treatment Facility are required to be screened foe applicable immunizations.
- May be required to work overtime, weekends, holidays and evenings.
- This position may be a weather or mission essential position.
- This position may be required to rotate shifts if shortage in other areas of hospital operations.
- This position may require occasional temporary duty travel - 5%.
- Position may require BLS license/certification.
- Physical exam is required.
- Lifting up to 25lbs.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing clerical and administrative support functions of patient care and treatment in a medical setting; entering patient data, reading and interpreting medical terminology and utilizing automated systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
