About the Position: This position is located at Tyndall Air Force Base, Medical Readiness.
Duties
Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Medical Readiness Program, ensuring programs comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs.
Serves as the Medical Emergency Manager and technical advisor to the Medical Treatment Facility commander.
Manages policies and procedures to ensure accomplishment of programs and to find ways to improve quality, timeliness, and efficiency of work.
Monitors changes in capability requirements and identifies scope and impact of changes.
Develops and provides local Medical Disaster Program guidance and training to wing units including appropriate medical response and survival under a variety of emergency situations.
Develops criteria for exercise contingency responses plans, checklists, program reviews, and quality assurance reviews.
Exercise supervisory responsibility of subordinate personnel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must successfully complete the initial level of the Public Health Emergency Management Course (PHEM) within one year of designation as a MEM and complete sustainment training every subsequent 4 years in the role IAW DoDi 6200.03.
- Frequent shifts in working hours and extended periods of overtime may be required. Night or weekend shifts can be expected if situation warrants immediate medical contingency response action.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- This is a Key position; duties of this position meet requirements as a category 4 designation and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency to function effectively.
- Incumbent must successfully complete the Medical Readiness Management Course (MRMC) within one-year IAW AF guidance.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing medical readiness services such as: plan, organize, and direct activities of the Medical Readiness Program, ensuring programs comply with legal and regulatory requirements, meet customer needs, and manage policies and procedures to ensure accomplishment of programs and find ways to improve quality, timeliness, and efficiency. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Medical Informatics.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
