About the Position: This position is with the United States Reserve Command, Office of the Deputy Commanding General (DCG), Safety located at Fort Liberty, North Carolina.

Duties

Serve as a primary technical advisor and Program Manager for Operations, Exercise, Transportation, Explosives, and Range Safety Program, U.S. Army Reserve Special Staff Safety. Evaluate existing and proposed operations, facilities, and equipment for compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administrations regulations (OSHA) standards. Develop U.S. Army Reserve safety policies, procedures, guidance and evaluation criteria relative to transportation, risk management exercises and range safety operations. Represent the U.S. Army Reserve Safety Office in the introduction of general purpose equipment and material systems as well as other force modernization issues. Accompany troops on tactical exercises to observe and advise on the integration of safety techniques into the exercise.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must have completed Level I Skills related training as outlined in the Army Career Program (CP-12) Master Training Plan or within one year of appointment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET Clearance.
  • The duties of this position may require the incumbent to work evenings, nights, holidays, and/or weekends to include modification in shifts and/or tour of duty.

One year of specialized experience which includes managing safety or occupational health program elements; applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements; identifying accident trends and developing recommending countermeasures; applying standard storage methods and hazard classifications for ammunition, explosives and/or solid propellants sufficient to minimize their potential for causing mishaps while in storage and possible injuries to personnel and damage to property; performing investigations of mishaps involving wide range of industrial and tactical operations; developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, or procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards; inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards; and training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
