About the Position: The Alaska District is seeking to fill an Administrative Support Assistant position located in a construction office with the Construction Division. An ideal candidate will have experience in written and oral communications, interpersonal skills, organization skills, and the ability to manage several tasks simultaneously. Experience working with a team in a fast-paced dynamic environment is highly desirable.
Duties
This is a developmental position; duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity at the GS-5 grade level. At the full performance, GS-6, the incumbent will:
Serves as a key administrative advisor to the Branch/Section supervisor and provides clerical and administrative support on all administrative, clerical, and non-technical matters and resolves related problems.
Serves as the primary timekeeper responsible for all timekeeping and labor distribution duties, including training of the alternate timekeeper.
Serves as the Office Training Coordinator and as such directly assists the Branch/Section supervisor and District Training Coordinator in the administration of annual requirements.
Manages the Branch/Section office supplies and processes customer and/or government orders and generates reports as needed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. GS-5 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a variety of clerical support duties such as answering telephones, and directing calls to appropriate staff; and entering/manipulating data using a personal computer. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-4).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
GS-6 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing administrative support duties such as receptionist, recordkeeping, timekeeping, and/or clerical support functions providing office automation support, scheduling appointments and meetings using an automated calendar. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-5).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-6, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
