You will serve as an INTERDISCIPLINARY COMMUNITY PLANNER-HISTORIAN-ARCHAEOLOGIST-ARCHITECT in the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command, Atlantic (NAVFACENGSYSCOM LANT), Environmental Conservation Division, Natural and Cultural Resources Branch of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will adapt environmental compliance program schedules and deadlines to facilitate program completion. You will compile natural resources documentation to review proposed environmental protection actions. You will adapt oral communication methods and styles based on the audience and the target objectives. You will monitor environmental project scope, budget, and scheduling to ensure environmental programs achieve organizational goals. You will compose technical correspondence to communicate engineering and architectural designs, plans, and objectives to management, technical experts, or staff.

  • Selective Placement Factor (SPF): This position has an SPF which is current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect (RA) in any state, District of Columbia, Guam or Puerto Rico
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.

Qualifications

Selective Placement Factor (SPF): If applying for this position as an Architect (0808 series) you must have a current registration as an Architect (RA) in any state, District of Columbia, Guam or Puerto Rico. A copy of a wall certificate that does not show current registration status will not serve to verify this SPF In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: (1.) Preparing or managing the preparation of complex documents or special studies (2.) Developing plans of accomplishment, including schedules and acquisition plans related to SIOP facilities projects requiring cultural resource and environmental planning support (3.) Overseeing execution, priorities of work, and schedules in support of the planning, design, and construction of SIOP facility projects (4.) Assisting supervisors and other leaders in overseeing the overall long-range planning, direction, and timely execution of SIOP projects or initiatives related to cultural resource and environmental planning requirements and (5.) COMMUNITY PLANNING SERIES 0020:

Degree: Community Planning or related field such as urban affairs, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, sociology, geography, economics, political science, or public administration that included at least 12 semester hours in the planning process, socioeconomic and physical elements of planning, urban and regional economic analysis, and development finance

ARCHAEOLOGY SERIES 0193:
  1. Degree that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas:

    • History of archeology.
    • Archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa.
    • Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development.
    • Theory and methods of archeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques.
    • Archeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work.

      and

    • Six semester hours of related course work in:

      • geography, geology, or cultural geography;
      • history, historiography, or historical archeology;
      • environmental studies;
      • scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or
      • surveying;

      and

    • Archeological field school.

  2. Related Curriculum: degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements in A.1 (including archeological field school).

    HISTORY SERIES 0170:

    Degree: history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.

    ARCHITECTURE SERIES 0808:

    Degree: architecture; or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.
