This position is located with Forest Service Business Operations, Office of Regulatory & Management Services.
The incumbent of this position will be the technical authority on records management and office automation, focusing on the systematic creation, retention, transfer, and disposition of all records at all levels and in response to FOIA and litigation hold requirements.

Duties
You will conduct studies to analyze record and information needs, reviewing existing programs and systems to identify problems and recommends solutions.
You will identify records and information sharing needs and advises on sources and methods to meet these needs.
You will provide guidance, expertise and training in new technologies and ways of managing information.
You will develop new or revised agency programs, processes, systems and procedures to guarantee that adequate record keeping requirements are established and implemented.
You will maintain liaison with all Forest Service levels and other agencies concerning information and records management issues.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-12: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as a majority of the following: Utilized information management technology, office automation tools, and records management principles, concepts, and techniques for a records management program; Conducted studies to improve operations and provide recommendations for program efficiency; Analyzed, correlated, and coordinated numerous projects at a time in order to gain the most effective use of personnel, resources, and time; Carried out assigned projects ensuring system optimization of hardware and software availability to customers.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
