You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER (PARAMEDIC/HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TECHNICIAN) in the NAVY FIRE & EMERGENCY SERVICES DEPARTMENT of NAS PENSACOLA.

Duties

You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities that may include research and/or large industrial complexes. You will combat fire or rescue personnel on board ships where conditions create very difficult and dangerous situations. You will perform crash-rescue and firefighting duties involving air traffic or support operations. You will drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles. You will perform hazard and risk assessments. You will provide advanced life support in delivering medical aid to patients.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will work 72 hours on/48 hours off basis that includes weekends and holidays. You may be subject to recall.
  • You may be required to participate on Hazardous Materials Teams (HAZMAT).
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling and extinguishing fires by operating fire equipment (hoses, ladders, hydrants, etc.); 2) Operating various medical equipment (EKG machine, AED machine, etc.) to provide advanced life support; 3) Providing emergency assistance (medical aid, first aid, HAZMAT, etc.) in accordance with safety standards and regulations; 4) Leading a crew of firefighters (i.e. directing drills, constructing reports, assigning work, etc.). **NOTE: Experience must be fully supported in your resume to be considered for this position.** This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator ARFF, Driver/Operator Aerial, HazMat Technician, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (NREMT-P). These firefighter certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you do not provide copies of each certification, you will be rated ineligible.
