About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Duties

Instructs patients on proper procedures for ordering meals using room service. Ensure accuracy of most current diet order and communicates with dietitian or ward nursing staff for clarification of any discrepancies. Answers questions and/or responds to requests for diet instruction by referring requests to Registered Dietitian. Takes appropriate action to correct tray errors in a timely manner. Prepares patient tray count reports. Tabulates the appropriate number of regular and modified diets and provides report to department’s budget analyst. Records food tolerances/preferences in Nutritional Medicine Information Management System. Cleans, sanitizes, and maintains food service equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
  • This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
  • This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-03). OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position, such as, Dietetics or Nutrition. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to DetailDatabase AdministrationDecision SupportFood Service Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-03).
