About the Position: This Supervisory Security Guard is located at U.S. Army White Sands Missile Range, White Sands Test Center, XO/Mission Support Directorate with duty location of White Sands Missile Range, Otero County, New Mexico.
White Sands Test Center uses salary control points within the salary range to allow for differentiation in the level of positions within the same broadband. Therefore, the salary for this position will be set no higher than $87,482(with locality).
Duties
Serve as a Supervisory Security Guard (Shift Supervisor) on a 12-hour shift assignment
Prepare the duty roster and assign individual guards to posts
Provide maximum and special security protection for areas containing classified information, special nuclear material or potential hazards to the safety of personnel
Supervise and participate in the formal training and development of guard personnel
Supervise the strict enforcement of security regulations, administrative rules and procedures
Supervise the investigations of complaints, accidents and violations of security regulations
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires you to travel from the duty station, up to 25% travel away from duty station required.
- This is a testing designated position. Personnel are required to sign DA Form 5019-R (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program).
- Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional, and mental stability. Standards for medical exams are prescribed in AR 190-56, “The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program.
- Must meet the personal qualifying factors/requirements and remain qualified for the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP) IAW AR 50-5, "Nuclear Surety" Chapter 2, Section II,.
- Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56.
- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- Incumbent must wear the prescribed DASG uniform IAW AR 190-56; must maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- Incumbent must successfully complete and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and First Aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- This position is designated as Mission Essential.
- LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Employee must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check.

One-year specialized experience equivalent to the NK-02/GS-07 grade level as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved which includes experience maintaining security measures to monitor and provide control of personnel and vehicles; experience patrolling designated areas to check for unusual situations and conditions; and experience conducting physical access control operations. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.
