Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the DoD in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information.
The duty station of these positions will be assigned at the time of a job offer, and pay will be set in accordance with the duty station. Any on-site requirements will be determined by the duty station assigned upon selection.
Duties
Serves as an Administrative Support Specialist with responsibility for providing a variety of support services/functions to the Defense Finance Accounting Service (DFAS) Strategy and Support Office.
Conducts management studies and works individual projects related to the mission, functions, manpower, administrative operations and processes of the Strategy and Support Headquarters (HQ).
Utilizes a variety of automated processing software packages such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc., to develop, analyze and present statistical data.
Performs administrative duties to control and provide substantive advice on suspense for staff action/correspondence, maintain records, orders and control of supplies/equipment, and prepare briefings and presentations for Senior Leaders and HQ staff.
Monitors administrative functions, manpower/personnel requests, work orders, awards and other administrative management services for the Strategy and Support Headquarters.
For vacancies filled at less than the full performance level of the position, duties will be developmental in nature.

Qualifications
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized Experience for the GS-07 is defined as: assisting office and management personnel by gathering, consolidating, and analyzing various types of information, and utilizing regulations and instructions to answer questions and remedy standard issues identified by organizational leadership or management.
Specialized Experience for the GS-09 is defined as: applying knowledge of the rules, procedures, operations, organization, and functions of an organization sufficient to perform all administrative support work of the office of a Senior Leader or department head.
Examples of Specialized Experience for the GS-09: Managing and scheduling appointments; using office automation software; researching, interpreting and applying clerical and administrative regulations, reviewing correspondence to ensure compliance with regulations, grammar, format and special policies for correspondence are followed; advising action officers in subordinate units on such matters as the application of procedures, correspondence and reporting requirements; maintaining appointment calendars, scheduling conferences/meetings, maintaining files, and making travel arrangements; greeting and interacting with visitors to the Senior Leader.
Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience.
Education
GS-07 Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: One full year of graduate level education or Superior Academic Achievement (http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/policy/ApplicationOfStds-04.asp) may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (http://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html).
GS-09 Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education, Master's or equivalent graduate degree, may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (http://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html).
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to substitute for the specialized experience requirement.
