You will serve as a MARINE MACHINERY REPAIRER in the PORT OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of NAVBASE KITSAP SILVERDALE WA.

Duties

You will follow oral or written directions to perform work on worn or defective machinery or equipment. You will analyze authorizations to overhaul, repair, or replace engines, transmissions, and related equipment on a vessel. You will adjust blowers, pumps, compressors, or speed limiting governors using test equipment. You will disassemble engine or machinery components to determine depth of repair required.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Yearly physical is required.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • The incumbent may also be required to apply for and obtain a forklift license up to 3 ton (6000# capacity).
  • Employee may be required to become Facility Response Team (FRT) qualified.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of Machine Machinery Repairer Without More Than Normal Supervision. 1) Operating marine diesel engines, outboard engines, other machinery and equipment as required; 2) Performing preventive maintenance and repair on service craft, barges, security boats, and small boats with various portable machines and hand tools; and 3) Interpreting plans, sketches, and specifications to assist in the installation/repair of marine machinery components and equipment. Physical Effort: Works requires long periods of constant standing and walking on the tugboat while underway. During emergencies, may be required to endure long periods of work without rest. Must be able to climb vertical ladders and step over three foot bulwark on a rocking tug, which requires the use of legs, hands, and arms. Will be required to lift, carry and move material weighing up to 44 pounds. Must have peripheral vision enabling the incumbent to avoid falls and moving objects. Mush have sufficient hearing to hear verbal commands over surrounding noise of gasoline and diesel engines, tugboats and ship operations.
