Incorporates complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of Veteran patients, including providing mental health therapy, case management, and psychosocial interventions. Maintains effective working relationships with VA and community staff. Assess the needs of Veterans served by ICMHR regarding psychiatric disorders, relevant substance use disorders, and relevant medical and psychosocial issues. Conducts a biopsychosocial assessment with Veteran and reviews/updates with any significant changes as needed. Incorporates psychoeducation into treatment. Conducts individual, group and family interventions to address psychiatric illness and as appropriate substance use recovery. Assists with referral and coordination with other psychiatric, substance use or specialty care resources. Develops and participates in development of treatment or recovery plans for Veterans served by ICMHR with measurable goals based on relevant information gathered in assessment process. Updates treatment plan annually or as clinically indicated. Utilizes measurement-based care and NEPEC program evaluation tools to track outcomes. Provides individual, group and family interventions and case management used in the treatment of Veterans with serious mental illness. Provides consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of Veterans treated in specialty areas. Renders professional opinions based on experience and expertise during team meetings and consultation. Teaches and mentors staff and students in the treatment of Veterans with severe mental illness. Collaborates and cover services for team members as needed. Screens program consults and represent the program to other teams and services at the facility or in the community. Practices as a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP), under a Supervisory Social Worker in the Mental Health Service, with additional professional practice oversight provided by the Chief, Social Work Service. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Education: Must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Exception: VHA may waive the licensure or certification requirement for persons who are otherwise qualified, pending completion of state prerequisites for licensure/certification examinations. Social Worker, GS-11: Experience and Licensure: Appointment to the GS-11 grade level requires completion of a minimum of one year of post-MSW experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the field of health care or other social work-related settings, (VA or non-VA experience) and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level. OR Education: In addition to meeting basic requirements, a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work may be substituted for the required one year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting. Social Worker must be able to perform primarily light and sedentary duties with occasionally moderate physical demands, exercise patience, and control emotions, with reasonable accommodation, if necessary, without endangering the health and safety of the social worker or others.
