About the Position: Serves as the Installation's Senior Operations Officer. Plans, coordinates, prepares, and executes operations that include military and civic missions and support during man-made or natural disasters.
Duties
Primary individual responsible for base support of operational planning, equitable distribution of responsibilities, prioritizing and coordinating support effort, conduct of studies and assessment of evaluations.
Serves as the focal point of contact of information within the command with higher headquarters, tenant units, and other commands and activities on policies, procedures and all aspects of installation current operations activities.
Distributes work and assure timely accomplishment of assigned workload.
Plans and coordinates all installations level participation in higher headquarters Deployment Exercises (DEPEXs) as well as expert for support and coordination to all current operations affecting the installation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as “Emergency-Essential”. Emergency-Essential designation takes precedence over any transportation agreement or military recall status.
- In the event of a crisis situation or wartime, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties and requirements of the position.
- This position has been designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary can be terminated with limited appeal rights

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Developing operation plans which may include tasking and support requirements for contingency, deployment, mobilization and demobilization plans; AND 2) Coordinating and executing plans/operations in support of man-made or natural disasters; AND 3) Experience during the activation of an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in response to worldwide contingency operations, training exercises and/or deployment operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
