Duties

Identifies methods of measuring software and artificial intelligence capabilities and weaknesses for artificial intelligence systems through research. Collaboratively develops reference software tools building on or leveraging research output to demonstrate the measurement of artificial intelligence systems and leads the design and development of new features and methods as needed. Prepares and delivers presentations and publications, providing technical expertise and performing outreach to federal agencies and industry to measure characteristics of artificial intelligence systems.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: A. Bachelor's degree in computer science. OR B. Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. In addition to the above basic requirements, applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the GS-12 level (ZP-III at NIST). The specialized experience is defined as experience leading information security and artificial intelligence research and authoring technical guidance/research publications. Experience in developing and managing software applications in various languages, such as Python, Java, Javascript/Typescript, and other similar languages, while leveraging a wide variety of available frameworks and libraries. Experience employing software engineering principles in the development of software applications while accounting for user feedback and involvement. Experience in analyzing characteristics of artificial intelligence systems. Experience preparing and delivering presentations and publications to a variety of stakeholders on information security and artificial intelligence topics. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
