This position is within the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center, located in West Palm Beach, FL. This position serves as a Program Assistant performing more complex administrative and clerical functions in support to the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service (P&LMS) .

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Uses advanced knowledge of policies and procedures, priorities, and program goals of the pathology service and the medical center sufficient to perform a mix of routine and nonroutine assignments. Coordinates incoming data from a variety of sources and provides progress reports. Performs program support work for pathologist peer review, credentialing data verification, quality assurance and other data management for the anatomic pathology program. Prepares, executes and tracks program specific information such as clinical pertinence review data, quality tracking data, and reference testing data. Uses software applications to draw information, (e.g. VISTA, internet, and intranet sites) to prepare reports. Monitors aspects of the program and makes recommendations to improve or modify methods for disseminating information to intended audiences. Maintains an orderly and adequate level of program supplies. Processes and manages incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda and other forms of written communications, as well as patient materials. Serves as a point of contact for the physicians/clinicians, ROI representatives, medical center staff, and others who conduct business with the service. Delivers high level of customer service and troubleshoots problems with patients, clinical, and administrative staff. Uses software applications to collate information from various sources to prepare or assist in the preparation of reports. Performs office automation duties using such software applications as VA laboratory software packages (clinical lab, microbiology, blood bank and/or pathology), electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, spreadsheet, database and/or graphics. TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-06 GRADE LEVEL, APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have one (1) year of specialized experience which equipped you with the knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this Program Assistant position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes performing administrative and clerical functions in support of a Pathology and Laboratory service; preparing, executing, and tracking program specific information; utilizing knowledge of medical terminology to analyze and coordinate data; creating, adapting, and generating reports; and using various software applications to complete office automation duties. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. ~AND~ TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. There is walking, bending and reaching required such as for filing or locating material, and carrying items such as reports, documents, and supplies. Entering data and word processing on a personal computer may result in physical problems from the effects of repetitive motion and eyestrain.
