About the position:
This position will be assigned to Outdoor Creation located on Peterson Space Force Base.
Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug test. Must be able to lift items weighing 40 pounds or more.
This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
Duties
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists the Outdoor Adventure Program Manager in conducting safe and efficient outdoor recreation programs; the incumbent of this position leads and instructs groups and individuals in daily and overnight outdoor recreation programs, Verifies that all guides are trained and certified in accordance with all Federal, State, and local requirements.
Ensures that all phases of instruction are given in accordance with the student abilities.
Carries out guide duties to include but not limited to rafting and other outdoor recreation programs.
Provides resources, first aid, and evacuation procedures for customers and other staff when necessary.
Enforces safety rules and safe procedures at all times.
Drives vehicles and shuttles for the purpose of transporting gear and customers to designated program activities.
Ensures all required paperwork is completed in a timely manner.
May perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and one every three years thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain current record of immunization.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience:
Practical knowledge of recreational activities, rules, and procedures is required. First Aid, CPR and W FR higher certification is required. Must have a valid driver's license and must be able to obtain a Government Driver's License. Must have one or more of the following: successful completion of "Summit" Single-Pitch course or similar SPI-Type class, ACA or Rescue 3 Swiftwater/Whitewater Rescue Technician Instructor (SWRTI), State of Colorado/AHRA Whitewater Rafting Guide and Trip Leader (TL), Royal Gorge Guide and Guide Instructor (RG, GI) and/or AIARE Level 2- Avalanche Certification .
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
