About the position:
This position will be assigned to Peterson SFB Outdoor Recreation.
This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
Must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Duties
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs maintenance and repair of recreational equipment.
Accomplishes timely maintenance and repair on various recreational items such as stoves, lanterns, heaters, etc.
Performs minor sewing in tents, tarps, and dining canopies as required.
Replaces lawn chair webbing, backpack straps and buckles, sterilizes canteens, and water coolers.
Recommends contract repair of items not repairable in-house.
Properly prepares campers, trailers, and boats for summer use, i.e., checks and repairs as necessary minor electrical and plumbing connection/components, repacks wheel bearings, and changes tires.
Effectively performs general maintenance throughout the season to ensure equipment is maintained in serviceable condition.
Properly prepares campers, trailers and boats for winter storage, such as draining water systems and cleaning interior.
May perform minor maintenance and repair of small electrical and gasoline powered gardening equipment and travel trailers.
Performs routine periodic equipment checks and may make mechanical or electrical repairs of two and four-cycle gasoline powered engines i.e., boat motor; as required, may replace internal engine components such as: rings, pistons, valves, gaskets, rods and bearings according to manufacturer's specifications.
In a timely manner prepares equipment for winter storage.
Cleans equipment, changes oil and drains gas from system and changes oil, spark plugs, filters, and belts as required.
Checks all equipment and tightens loose components.
Responsible for creating and utilizing system to routinely maintain and inspect campers, trailers, and boats to abide by manufactures recommendation.
Performs customer service duties; incumbent effectively issues recreational items and equipment to customers.
Properly instructs customers on safety rules, use, and care of issued equipment.
Provides patrons prompt, courteous information on ski and camping areas, current ski lift rates, equipment fees, and accommodations information.
Accurately sets ski bindings to proper release tension based on customer skill, height, weight, age, and properly fits ski boots.
Thoroughly checks equipment when turned in for cleanliness and damages.
Maintains accountability of funds, resale items and equipment.
Responsible for site organization of ODR rental yard and storage bays.
Prepares monthly activity reports as required and conducts monthly/semiannual inventories to assist in the accurate control of ODR equipment.
The incumbent in this position is responsible for ski tuning, stone grinding, mechanical repairs, and other preventive and conditioning maintenance of skis.
Performs spot checks and equipment inventories.
Performs and schedules minor repairs and routine maintenance on Wintersteiger and ski/snowboards machines to include biding tester.
Provides guidance and help patrons with ski :fittings and sizing as needed and scheduled.
Completes season appropriate checks (pre, mid, and post), in addition incumbent is responsible for all summer storage measures performed to include hard waxing, core and base repair, p-tex, etc., on Outdoor Recreation/Outdoor Adventure Program equipment and customers' equipment.
Completes all pre-season and mid-season tests and tunes before deadlines stipulated by management.
Keeps up-to-date and accurate records of cleaning, servicing, maintenance, repair, and testing of equipment. Insures customer equipment maintenance is complete to exceed expectations, competed prior to opening on due date, and all information is recorded correctly and all liability forms are signed.
May assist patrons with equipment rental, selling retail merchandise, demonstrating equipment usage procedures, and explaining specific set-up and use instructions and safety practices for equipment being issued or rented.
Inspects outdoor recreation equipment and facilities for security and general conditions and insures maintenance shop is clean, meets safety protocol, and is stocked with all necessary supplies.
Verifies patron's eligibility and authorization for use of equipment and facilities.
May perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and one every three years thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifying Experience:
Certification involving the completion of technical courses related to the maintenance, installation, adjustment, and repair of ski and other ODR equipment is highly desired. Skill in the use and maintenance of various recreational equipment and facilities is required.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
