About the position: This position will be assigned to Outdoor Recreation located on Peterson Space Force Base.
This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
Must be able to lift items weighing 40 pounds or more.
Duties
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists the Outdoor Recreation Director in developing, planning and managing safe and efficient outdoor recreation programs.
Supervises Outdoor Recreation staff.
Instructs and guides groups and individuals in daily and overnight outdoor recreation programs including, but not limited to: camping, rafting, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding, biking, and climbing.
Applies principles, concepts, techniques of outdoor recreation to strengthen the resiliency of military and civilian patrons.
Follows established rules and regulations Air Force, State of Colorado, Peterson SFB Outdoor Recreation Program, and the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Association (AHRA).
Develops and provides education programs regarding specific outdoor recreation activities.
Employs a variety of instructional skills to effectively communicate all applicable safety requirements to customers of wide ranging ages and experience levels
Provides resources, first aid, and evacuation procedures for customers and staff when necessary.
Demonstrates safety and conservation techniques for camp sites, water sports, and outdoor use area as applicable.
Enforces safety rules and safe procedures at all times.
Schedules camp sites, cabins, boats, and other outdoor recreation equipment and areas for use, and ensures that all equipment and areas are properly vacated and returned in good order.
Drives vehicles and shuttles for the purpose or transporting gear and customers to designated program activities.
Develops periodic program plans and annual budget requirements for assigned programs.
Arranges supplies, facilities, equipment, services, accounts for funds involved in the program, and makes sound recommendations for improvements in funding and other support services.
Publicizes and schedules outdoor recreation activities.
Answers inquiries about items, places, transportation, or other matters related to activities scheduled.
Ensures all required paperwork is completed in a timely manner.
Evaluates effectiveness of outdoor recreational activities in relation to customers response, resources, and program objectives.
Takes inventory of authorized recreation supplies and equipment.
Ensure equipment and vehicles are maintained, fueled, and stored as necessary.
Tests outdoor recreation equipment to ensure safe operation.
Coordinates and facilitates timely equipment repairs to meet programming requirements.
Inspects condition of outdoor recreation area and facilities and reports finding to Activity Manager.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random drug testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and one every three years thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience:
Must have knowledge of outdoor recreation programs and projects to include Federal, state, and local safety regulations and conservation program requirements. Must have one or more of the following: successful completion of "Summit" Single-Pitch course or similar SPI-Type class, ACA or Rescue 3 Swiftwater/Whitewater Rescue Technician Instructor (SWRTI), State of Colorado/Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA) Whitewater Rafting Guide and Trip Leader, Royal Gorge Guide and Guide Instructor, and/or the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) Level 2- Avalanche Certification.
Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical examination. Must be able to work an uncommon tour of duty and to travel occasionally. Must have a valid Driver's License, be able to maintain a valid driver's license, and obtain a Government Driver's License. First Aid, CPR and Rescue Breathing and Wilderness First Responder Certifications are also required. Must be able to lift items weighing 40 pounds or more. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug test and be subject to drug testing screenings. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Besides general experience, applicant must have experience gained in the operation or management of a civilian or military Outdoor Recreation program operation. A Bachelor's Degree in Outdoor Recreation, Outdoor Studies, or related field may be substituted for general and specialized experience.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
