As a Paralegal Specialist you will provide administrative and operational support on a variety of legal matters. You will conduct research, maintain records, track actions, generate reports, provide document and case management and litigation support. Work may vary depending on the role and mission responsibilities.
Duties
Supports the Agency’s intellectual property portfolio. Performs centralized functions such as processing requests to waive title to inventions; disposition of offers to license technology to NASA and monitoring USPTO accounts.
Consults and supports attorneys on intellectual property claims and litigation.
Maintains records management systems, and legal document databases. Tracks status of responses to client and external actions and manages pending legal files to ensure implementation action is taken when required.
Organizes and maintains technical and legal files, records, manuals, handbooks and other related materials.
Prepares documents, responds to incoming actions, tracks, and ensures proper routing of high-level actions and policies through the use of electronic databases, receives telephone calls and visitors, and maintains attorney calendars.
Supports and schedules meetings and events including periodic training, professional development, and business meetings.
Uses Legal Files or similar documents and case management systems to retrieve and compile reports and assist attorneys in the practice of law.

- Current Federal employees must meet qualifications, time in grade, and 90 days after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level:
Supporting attorneys on intellectual property legal matters;
Utilizing legal research platforms such as LEXIS/NEXIS or WESTLAW to conduct complex legal research, provide guidance, and compile information;
Managing office actions, such as tracking and responding to incoming actions, routing of high-level actions in electronic databases, receiving telephone calls and visitors, and maintaining attorney calendars.
