About the Position: Serves as Senior Safety and Occupational Health Specialist with responsibility for planning, scheduling, and coordinating the RIA safety and Health inspection program and on-site reviews of a variety of light and heavy manufacturing areas involving high risk hazards.

Duties

Conduct field surveys or inspections of industrial or explosives safety programs to ensure compliance with program policies and procedures. Investigate mishaps involving personal injury or damage to government property to report on causes and contributing factors. Communicate with managers, supervisors, and safety representatives to explain problems or conditions that impact the safety, health, and efficiency of personnel. Assess the risk to personnel to develop recommendations for implementation of appropriate safety measures. Advise employees of their responsibility to report unsafe conditions.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
• This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
