About the Position: Position serves as the Safety and Occupational Health Manager at a Major Subordinate Command (MSC) level for the Mississippi Valley Division (MVD), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
Duties
Provides staff supervision to activities within the Division Headquarters and to six (6) subordinate District Safety and Occupational Health programs in each District.
Complete program responsibilities, covering a broad and diverse regional geographical area.
Oversee a wide variety of required program elements in the major program areas of safety, engineering/construction, industrial hygiene, occupational health, and health physics.
Coordinate widely dispersed missions and activities, such as project design, heavy construction, maritime operations, environmental, and radioactive waste clean up.
Responsible to promote, market, and support implementation of the Army Safety and Occupational Health Management System (ASOHMS) and Corps of Engineers Safety and Occupational Health Management System (CE-SOHMS) in the Division and all MVD Districts.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A one-year Trial or Probationary may be required.
- This is a Mission Essential position and is not subject to administrative dismissal in emergencies based on inclement weather conditions, or other emergency situations, as appropriate.
- A Mission Essential employee is required to report for or remain at work in emergency situations; dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to him/her unless his/her supervisor instructs otherwise.
- This position requires recurring travel to installations and facilities within the U. S. as well as to Puerto Rico.
- Such travel often involves temporary duty assignments for extended periods of time in locations requiring unusual hardships and demands.
- Hardships include but are not limited to lack of running water, lack of electricity, etc. As such, the incumbent of this position must be willing and physically able to work in such austere conditions.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Developing, interpreting and/or implementing safety and occupational health (SOH) laws, standards, policies and/or regulations to ensure organizational compliance; (2) Implementing accident prevention controls; and (3) providing program management and technical guidance on diverse, high risk and/or complex hazardous conditions in a wide geographic region. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
