You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST/OCEANOGRAPHER/DATA SCIENTIST in the Remote Sensing Branch, Data Collection Division, Oceanographic Department, Naval Oceanographic Office, Stennis Space Center, Mississippi of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will be responsible for the development, construction, maintenance, and upgrades of data models, data bases, and environmental products for Physical Oceanographic parameter.
You will be responsible for utilizing computers in the analysis of oceanographic and remote sensed data.
You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and carrying out work, and resolving difficult problems and conflicts that may arise within your organization.
You will be responsible for proving technical oversight of the processing, quality control, and interpretation of remotely sensed oceanographic data and ensuring the operational receipt and processing.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience handling large amounts of complex data by computer and the ability to interface with internal and external representatives in support of data collection, processing, and data exchange requirements.
Experience utilizing computers in the analysis of oceanographic and remote sensed data and the ability to utilize big data principles, data governance, cloud computing, and machine learning in the analysis and visualization of remote sensed data.
Experience planning and developing various software systems using techniques, procedures, and processes such as operating system theory, data structure, and software engineering.
Experience utilizing the concepts, theories, principles, and practices of physical oceanography.
Experience implementing oceanographic data acquisition, data processing, and data exchange, and the ability to manage and/or coordinate an in-depth project.

Basic Requirements:
- Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

- Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirements:

Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.

Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
