Duties
As a member of the Forest Leadership Team (FLT), provides leadership in the management, development and execution of programs, which includes developing short- and long-range objectives and budgets.
Participates with the Forest Supervisor and the Forest Management Team in the formulation of Forest policies, objectives, work programs, and plans for programs and activities.
Implements and executes project plans for the program area.
Coordinates the assigned programs and plans with other resource management functions, monitors the accuracy of plans, policies, programs, and administration.
Provides recommendations on development and execution of programs to ensure their accomplishment within applicable guidelines and available manpower and funds.
Responsible for the location, survey, plans, specifications, and analysis of engineering systems and facilities such as roads, trails, bridges, or structures that encompass interrelated elements that are difficult to accommodate.
Requirements

- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

- Subject to one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period (unless prior service is creditable).
- New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required new supervisory training program before the end of their probationary period.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-12: You must have one-year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as meeting three or more of the following: Assisted in the long-range resource planning, program direction, coordination and evaluation of program areas; and/or developed and implemented multiple-use resource management plans which covered a diverse range of resource management issues; and/or developed short and long range objectives, budgets, and priorities; and/or implemented project plans for land management program areas and provided recommendations on development and execution.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
