About the Position: This is a Credentialing Assistant position located in San Diego, California.
NOTE: Management is selecting this position at the GS-05 or GS-06 or GS-07 grade level. If selected at the GS-05 or GS-06 grade level, the incumbent maybe non-competitively be promoted to the target grade GS-07.
Duties
Under minimal supervision, process privileges for incoming healthcare professionals.
Initiate the appointment, credentialing and reappointment, and re-credentialing process.
Compile and process data in compliance with local, regional, state and federal accreditation requirements.
Gather, analyze and verify information on the medical education and specialized training of all practitioners who request hospital privileges.
Review contractor's verification of education, training and licensure of prospective employees to determine the adequacy of their investigation
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is a situational telework position.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

GS-05
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing clerical and receptionist duties, such as, typing, filing, or processing documents or utilizing various software programs to prepare various correspondence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
GS-06
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing one or more of the following: (1) utilizing automated systems to manage, analyze, or monitor credentialing of healthcare providers or practitioners, (2) corresponding with healthcare providers or practitioners via email or telephone, or (3) managing records of credentialed staff within a medical facility. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Education: Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Health Administration, Human Resources, or Business Management. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
GS-07
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in reviewing or verifying credentials such as completed education, training, licenses, or other special certifications for preparation of competency and privileging packets for approval. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
OR
Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Health Administration, Human Resources, or Business Management. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
