This position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs Debt Management Center (DMC), Support and Special Operations Division (SSOD), within the Office of Finance, Office of Management. The primary purpose of this position is to process and apply transactions within a financial system. The work also includes mail intake, sorting, processing, and assisting with applying check payments to the appropriate accounts receivable.
Duties
Reviewing and analyzing correspondence, then completes numerous critical non-financial account transactions, such as: linking to an individual AR; assigning to an appropriate work type for processing.
Verifying that the address in numerous systems of record is current and processes non-financial transactions to correct the address.
Processing non-financial transactions that delete the original mailing transaction in the system of record and then reprocesses to submit the mailing to the corrected address.
Operating specialized high speed scanning hardware and software to scan paper documents and electronically ingest documents into the financial system of record.
Reviewing each scanned document to ensure clarity and legibility and ensure receipt dates are properly documented.
Reviewing outgoing documents and related instructions submitted by numerous debt servicing teams within the financial system of record.
Printing, reviewing, and organizing documents to ensure outgoing mail is submitted in accordance with instructions provided.
Performing quality checks on the outgoing mail to determine accuracy. Ensures all PII is protected.
Work Schedule: Officer hours for this position will be established between 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Promotion Potential: This position is at the full performance level.
Time-in-grade: Applicants who are/were federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04 level. To support your claim of time in grade, you must submit your most recent appointment, promotion, or within grade increase SF-50 (not an award or general adjustment SF-50). Physical Requirements: Work is typically performed while sitting. Duties require some physical exertion, such as extended periods of standing, bending, reaching, or similar activities necessary to set up, operate, adjust, and monitor operation of the equipment. Incumbent occasionally lifts heavy materials and supplies more than 50 pounds, such as mail crates or large paper stock.

To qualify for the GS-05 To qualify, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-04) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as: (1) Providing general clerical support to an organization; (2) Reviewing and routing incoming correspondence and/or payments; AND (3) Operating scanning equipment and reviewing scanned documents for legibility.

Applicants may substitute Undergraduate Education to qualify for grade GS-5. Applicants may substitute education for experience: 4 years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
OR
Applicants may substitute a combination of Undergraduate Education and General Experience to qualify for grade GS-5. If you have some, but not all, of the undergraduate education described above AND less than three full years of the general experience described above, you may qualify by combining the amount of creditable education and experience that you do have. To calculate, first identify the percentage of qualifying education you have as a percentage of four years of study. Then identify the percentage of required general experience you possess as a percentage of 36 months. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05. If you are claiming to qualify based on your education, your application must include an official or unofficial copy of college transcripts that demonstrate this information.
