This position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs Debt Management Center (DMC), Support and Special Operations Division (SSOD), within the Office of Finance, Office of Management. The primary purpose of this position is to process and apply transactions within a financial system. The work also includes mail intake, sorting, processing, and assisting with applying check payments to the appropriate accounts receivable.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/15/2024. The Office of Personnel Management's group coverage qualification standards, associated individual occupational requirements (IOR), and individual qualification standards covering white collar occupations in the Federal competitive service can be found Here. GS-05 To qualify for the GS-05, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-04) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-04) in the normal line of progression: (1) Providing general clerical support to an organization; (2) Reviewing and routing incoming correspondence and/or payments; AND (3) Operating scanning equipment and reviewing scanned documents for legibility. OR Applicants may substitute Undergraduate Education to qualify for grade GS-5. Applicants may substitute education for experience: 4 years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR Applicants may substitute a combination of Undergraduate Education and General Experience to qualify for grade GS-5. If you have some, but not all, of the undergraduate education described above AND less than three full years of the general experience described above, you may qualify by combining the amount of creditable education and experience that you do have. To calculate, first identify the percentage of qualifying education you have as a percentage of four years of study. Then identify the percentage of required general experience you possess as a percentage of 36 months. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05. If you are claiming to qualify based on your education, your application must include an official or unofficial copy of college transcripts that demonstrate this information. NOTE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You will be rated on the following competencies based on your application for this position.
