About the Position: This position develops Army, joint, and interagency doctrine, policy, guidelines, and procedures and related products pertaining to the handling of deceased personnel during the range of military operations. Incumbent provides technical assistance and subject matter expertise related to research, development, and acquisition of mortuary affairs supplies, equipment, and other materiel systems. Located at Fort Gregg-Adams in Virginia.
Duties
Write technical procedures for the care and handling of deceased personnel and their personal effects.
Provide technical input for mortuary affairs briefings.
Analyze mortuary affairs field operations to ensure appropriate procedures, as well as health and safety laws are followed.
Conduct studies on emerging civilian industry technologies procedures and forensic considerations for inclusion in mortuary affairs doctrine and related training publications.
Develop collective and individual training products and publications.
Interpret national and international codes, policies, and standardization agreements pertaining to the handling of deceased personnel.
Maintain state-of-the-art technical knowledge pertaining to the preservation, sanitation, identification, transportation, and disposition of deceased personnel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be willing to travel worldwide on short notice in support of operations or disasters to perform temporary duties for extended periods up to 35% of the year.
- Must be able to pass a physical examination in order to perform the duties of this position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) providing technical assistance and subject matter expertise related to the handling of deceased personnel; AND 2) developing training products and publications; AND 3) analyzing mortuary affairs field operations to ensure appropriate procedures, and health and safety laws are followed. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
