The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York's mission is to investigate, prosecute and deter violations of federal statutes, enforce and represent the interests of the United States in civil litigation, uphold civil, constitutional and victims' rights, and foster partnerships with other federal, state and local government agencies and community groups.
Duties
This Civil Division Legal Administrative Specialist provides analysis and advice regarding optimal utilization of technological tools and performs a variety of complex technological litigation duties to prepare and manage electronic discovery, evidence, exhibits, and other electronically stored information relevant to investigations and casework using a variety of methods, tools and software applications.
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Legal Administrative Specialist support in the Civil Division at the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York, located in Brooklyn, New York, focusing in the areas of training, guidance, and technical assistance to other litigation support staff.
Typical work assignments will include:
Utilizes specialized software applications to process complex and voluminous electronical stored information (e.g., PDF files and portfolios, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, email files such as .pst or .msg, non-standard or propriety files, audio and video files, etc.) to prepare it for review of production according to the needs of criminal and/or civil case teams.
Develops a plan for copying, storing, and reviewing complex and/or voluminous electronic files consistent with those requirements, including by proposing software tools, review criteria (e.g. search terms, date ranges, etc.) and organizational strategies (e.g., fielded data, tagging templates).
Advises case team on the options (e.g., format, endorsements, transmittal methods), time, and resources needed for productions.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience for the respective grade level in which you are applying:
To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must possess:
Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) (3) of the (4) duties listed below:
Providing expert level analysis and advice regarding technological tools or solutions for litigation support of federal cases;
Analyzing litigation support project requirements to define or understand project objectives, sequence of events, work effort, durations of tasks, and/or associated resource requirements;
Processing electronically stored information in various electronic file formats to prepare it for case team review, for production in discover, and/or for filing or presentation as exhibits in court, or other uses during litigation;
Maintaining document review databases of voluminous discovery and/or case materials for cases.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level.
You must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted; recommended SF-50s include promotions and step increases (within grade increases).
