You will serve as a TRAINING INSTRUCTOR in the SURFACE WARFARE OFFICER SCHOOL COMMAND of SURFACE WARFARE OFFICERS SCHOOL.

Duties

You will provide curriculum analysis, development and instruction applicable to Basic Division Officer Course (BDOC) focusing on Navigation, Seamanship and Shiphandling (NSS), and Bridge Resource Management (BRM). You will assist the N71 Directorate with Technical Equipment management. You will be required to operate and instruct in the Conning Officer Virtual Environment (COVE) shiphandling and Voyage Management System (VMS) simulators. You will assemble and analyze course reviews upon completion of each course using information compiled for student critiques, instructor evaluations and command monitors.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Periodic travel via commercial or military aircraft or ground transportation to various sites, conferences, briefings or meetings and underway aboard naval vessels may be required as necessary.
  • Work is primarily sedentary but regularly includes standing to lecture/train students for extended periods of time with appropriate number of breaks, as determined by instructor, to maintain instructor and student focus.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing instruction/training on navigation, seamanship, and shiphandling; 2) Utilizing electronic ship systems to perform ship operations; 3) Performing training course management such as curriculum development, course schedules, course revisions, and student management; and 4) Utilizing simulators and other computer-based shiphandling training systems to provide hands-on instruction for students. In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
