Do you have experience providing compounds and natural products for evaluation? If so, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD), Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP), Drug Synthesis and Chemistry Branch (DSCB), is seeking to fill a Chemist position. Duties

Applies the principles, theories, and practices of organic and medicinal chemistry, project management in support of the NCI/DTP mission, which includes acquisition of synthetics and pure natural products, ensuring the integrity of the compound collection, and overseeing a contractual mechanism that facilitates the receipt, storage, and inward/outward flow of test articles from the NCI Chemotherapeutics Agents Repository (NCI CAR). Advises on the synthesis of organic small-molecule compounds of biological interest in support of the discovery of anticancer agents. Analyzes complex synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry data. Reviews pertinent scientific literature and analyzes analytical data to assess quality, purity, and veracity of structures for agents acquired via purchase or synthesis for evaluation in NCI-supported assessments. Participates as a member of project teams and interacts with members of the Program/Division, as well as with scientists in universities and industry both domestic and foreign to promote program objectives. Makes presentations at meetings and conferences on new project developments in the field of chemical expertise.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-14 level if you meet the following qualification requirements: Educational Requirement: In order to qualify for a Chemist, GS-1320 position, you must have completed the requirements for a bachelor's or graduate or higher degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics OR a combination of education and experience course work equivalent to a major as shown above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Additional Specialized Experience Requirement: In addition, in order to qualify for a Chemist position, at the GS-14 level, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: analyzing synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry data; coordinating contract programs in support of discovery of anticancer agents; advising on the synthesis of medicinal chemistry data; presenting scientific literature for chemistry data. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
