About the Position: This position is located with the Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, Colorado. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Plan the work of subordinate employees, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares the section work schedules. Control personnel access by monitoring the identification and authorization of individuals and vehicles entering sensitive and restricted controlled areas. Inspect packages and materials carried by persons and maintains records of personnel entering/departing controlled areas. Maintain a high state of readiness in order to provide security and protection for high traffic/risk areas. Detain individuals involved in alarm situations and releases to appropriate military or civilian authorities. Follow prescribed special procedures to ensure the safety of personnel and the protection of government property in the event of an emergency such as military conflict, fire, bomb threat or severe inclement weather.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • The incumbent is required to maintain a high standard of conduct; and will be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program to show they can work effectively under pressure or emergency conditions with a positive attitude toward his/her duties.
  • This position requires incumbent to complete a pre-employment physical, physical agility, and psychological examinations and annual thereafter to ensure the required level of physical health and ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as required. Test requirements will be determined IAW AR 190-56 not to supersede the Army PT standards. Must meet established hearing and vision tests.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position requires the incumbent not have any criminal convictions and possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Criminal convictions and/or loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • May be required to successfully complete security guard training. Required to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
  • Must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • May be required to complete a 1 Year Supervisory Probationary Period if not already completed.
  • Employee must wear a uniform, bullet proof vest and other security/law enforcement equipment to perform the duties.
  • The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
  • The position is considered essential to support mobilization and wartime mission during periods of increasing tension or mobilization.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated experience in enforcing physical security compliance with Federal and local policies; patrolling highly sensitive and restricted areas by vehicle or foot to check locks, alarms, doors, or other barriers; providing on-the-job training techniques to lower grade security guards; and providing directions to patients, visitors, and contractors entering/departing controlled areas. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
