Duties
Serve as a Lead Security Guard (and Shift Leader) under the authority of the Senior Commander at Fort Carson, Colorado.
Is responsible for safeguarding government personnel, property, and technologies against such threats as: unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction.
Perform installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures, written orders, and regulatory requirement guide.
Perform Visitor Control Duties by authenticating identification and granting or denying access to the installation.
Make daily assignments to ensure that guard coverage is provided to assigned patrol areas.
Inspect containers, personal property, documents on private, commercial and governmental vehicle to allow or deny entry to the installation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date).
- Selectee’s inability to successfully pass or refusal to conduct the drug test may result in the job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process or subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment.

- LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
- Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
- Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
- Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals
- IAW AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019R Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing. Drug testing designated position. Individual agrees to submit to a urinalysis on a recurring basis, in accordance with (IAW) AR 600-85.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes enforcing access control for pedestrians and vehicles following standard operating security procedures; safeguarding personnel, information and critical assets against unlawful entry, sabotage, theft or willful damage; using an automated system, such as National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal, to perform queries to screen visitors and personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
