The purpose of the position is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. Incumbent utilizes knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts. The duties described by this position may not fully meet the type of work to be performed or there may be work that this position does not do in each of the specialties; however, if the general intent is met then this position is appropriate.

Duties

Major Duties: Construct, install, repair and replace items such as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets. Replace defective siding, steps, windowsills and thresholds; replaces glass panes and damaged portions of concrete or wooden walks and/or steps. Uses both hand and power tools such as hammers, bars, handsaws, screw drivers, squares, skill saws, jig saws, routers, hand-held belt sanders and drills. Operates small farm type tractors, and other equipment to include 5-ton forklift, skid steers, and excavator under close supervision. Perform trash removal from roadsides, trails, and beaches using UTVs and ATVs. Mows grass using riding and walk behind mowers and trimmers. Rehabilitate, modify and assemble from blueprints, sketches and verbal instruction, structures such as trail bridges, bulletin boards, fences and boardwalks that meets accessible standards. Small towns and vacation communities on the beaches of Lake Michigan, along with industrial corridors and farmlands, interspersed with large tracts of woodlands and wetlands, surround the park.
