As a Legal Administrative Specialist (Policy) at the GS-0901-12, you will be part of Retirement Services, Office of Personnel Management. If selected, you will be responsible for assignments requiring application of expert knowledge of Federal employee retirement and Insurance programs. This position is in Retirement Policy (RP), Retirement Services (RS).
Duties
Planning and carrying out studies and projects that may involve any aspect of Federal employee retirement and insurance programs.
Preparing reports, position papers, instructional or explanatory issuances to Federal agencies, and other material necessary for effective functioning of Federal employee retirement and insurance benefit programs.
Analyzing and preparing comments on newly introduced rulemaking concerning matters from other Federal agencies.
Preparing analyses of newly enacted or pending legislation to determine effects.
Serving as a primary source of expertise and analytical support on retirement for the Director, OPM, and Associate Director for Retirement Services.
Qualifications
For the GS 12: you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the federal service (obtained in either private or public sector) which must include:
1) evaluating employee retirement and insurance benefits;
2) assessing retirement operations, practices, and trends in the public sector;
3) analyzing pay, leave and/or other employment benefits to retirement policy, and their tax implications and
4) advising on retirement and insurance benefit programs.
You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
