Duties

You will perform defensive cyber operations is responsible for protecting an organization's networks, systems, and data from cyberthreats, including identifying, analyzing, and mitigating potential security risks and vulnerabilities. You will coordinate with other Cyber professionals from OPNAV, Fleet Cyber Command, Fleet Readiness Directorate, Engineering, NAVWAR Program Offices, NAVWAR Information Warfare Centers, and other SYSCOMs. You will develop and implement security policies, procedures, and best practices to improve the overall security posture of the organization. You will collaborate with other teams within the organization, including IT, operations, and business units, to ensure that security measures are integrated throughout the organization. You will keep up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in cyber security, including emerging threats, technologies, and best practices. You will respond to security incidents, including conducting investigations, assessing the scope and impact of the incident, and implementing remediation actions. You will monitor and analyze network traffic to detect and respond to potential threats, including malware, phishing attempts, and other cyber-attacks. You will conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify potential weaknesses in an organization's systems and networks.

  • This position is a Cyber Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain qualifications in accordance with DoDM 8140.03 Cyber Workforce Qualification and Management Program, February 15, 2023 and supporting Department of Navy policies.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card to make official government purchases for goods and services.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Generally, current Federal employees applying to APS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. All qualifications and pay band requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and documented in your resume.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing information systems security management, audits, and reviews; conducting IT risk, vulnerability analysis and assessment and cyber incident response. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: Information Technology (IT) Management Series 2210 (Alternative A) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
