About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Geotechnical & Structures Laboratory.
Duties
Analyses, determines, and applies principles and practices related to lab-scale and full-scale testing of structures and structural components, test article construction, prototype fabrication, explosive engineering, geophysical principles.
Establishes equipment requirements and logistics.
Understands safety rules and regulations.
Comprehends project funding/ financial management, property management, acquisition, and other business processes.
Collaborates with project stakeholders.
Informs and confers with supervisor regarding significant developments and determining solutions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Applying engineering methods and practices; Independently planning and accomplishing project goals; and leading a diverse team and documenting engineering data and related deficiencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DE-02 (GS-07).

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Engineering.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DE-03 (equivalent to GS-8/10). In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, an employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above in order to be selected for promotion. All applicants currently employed under a Laboratory Demonstration Project must include their most recent performance appraisal score as part of their electronic resume.
