About the Position: This position requires skill in engineering design, fabrication, and technical analysis for complex systems. Experience in data collection (LIDAR, hydrographic, sediment) and equipment maintenance. Strong leadership, troubleshooting, and fabrication abilities. Duties
Develop and implement engineering solutions for designing, building, and testing equipment and sensors, both for research and production projects.
Lead projects, manage team members, and work with Principal Investigators to ensure timely progress, documentation, and technical accuracy.
Set up and operate data collection systems (e.g., LIDAR, hydrographic, and sediment sampling) and analyze the data to provide recommendations.
Maintain and repair field equipment, including watercraft, trucks, and data collection tools, ensuring everything is ready for use.
Troubleshoot electronics and design custom equipment mounts for field use, ensuring systems work properly and meet project needs.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires travel to other duty locations up to 30% of the time.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required within 3 months of appointment.
- Army Corps of Engineers Boat license required within 3 months of appointment.
- Dive Team Certifications (Minimum certification as line tender) required within 6 months of appointment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 11) Managing engineering projects to ensure project goals and specifications are met; 2) interpreting technical drawings; 3) maintaining field data collection equipment; 4) analyzing test data; 5) preparing comprehensive technical reports based on project findings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DE-03 (GS-09).
